Secure and Streamlined Database Access with PDO : Ryan Wachtl

Madison PHP Conference 2013

Build your applications on a secure and portable database foundation. The mysql extension is deprecated as of PHP 5.5.0 and will soon be entirely removed. And while the newer mysqli extension is a good option, it makes porting over to a new database like PostgreSQL or SQLite a painful process down the road. The PDO extension defines a lightweight, consistent interface for accessing databases in PHP, and best of all it ships with PHP 5.1 +. In this session we'll expand on the Object-Oriented PHP talk and learn how to connect to MySQL using PDO and use it to store and retrieve objects.
